Fun Photos 2012

Rosa is wearing her green gingham dress with a duck cross stitch on the bodice. Rosa wanted to have her photo taken by a real duck.

Makareta and Joanne are playing with the teddy bears.

Sandra is wearing Sleeping Beauty’s (Heirloom Dolls, 1987) crown and necklace.

African Ginny gets close to a zebra for a photo before it gallops away.

Rosa has borrowed the BP surf rescue inflatable to go to an island for a picnic.

Carol has chosen what she wants for breakfast this morning. This is a 2011 Special K cereal box.

Louisa has giving Kashin, the baby elephant, an apple.

Rosa is collecting the little red hen’s eggs. The red hen was available in the 1950’s-1960’s . When you push down on her back the wings rise and she lays an egg. The hen came with three red eggs and two white eggs.

Mickey Mouse Memorabilia

Sandra is having a look at the Mickey Mouse toys. The Mickey on the left has the following back markings; Disney, Mfg. For McDonald’s. Made in China. Between Mickey’s ears on the top of his head is a dial that you can turn which changes the pictures inside his head. There is a view hole at the back left side of his head. On his back is a button that can be pushed in and air comes out of his pointed finger. On each sole of his feet there is a rolled stamp. I think this is an Australian McDonalds toy that you brought as three separate pieces.
The middle Mickey is one from the 1950’s that I got at a Fairground. It was attached to a stick by a piece of hat elastic joined to the top of his head. When you moved the stick up and down Mickey would jump up and down. He is made of celluloid and his arms and legs are joined to the body so they move up and down. There was also a choice of Donald Duck at the time and he was not jointed.
The right Mickey has a back head marking; WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS. On the sole of both shoes it is marked WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS PRODUCT OF HONG KONG. The arms are the only moving parts. No idea of the age, but I have had it a long time.

Melinda coloured in the colour-in picture on the other side but didn't post it before the closing date on 30.9.85.

Kara remembers when Mickey, Minnie and Goofy were travelling around New Zealand in 1996 in a huge truck and semi-trailer which opened out to become a Disney stage.   They sang Christmas Carols in twenty four different locations around the country.

Linda and Colleen are playing with Disney toys that were for sale in 1996 at BP Service Stations.

Joanne is reading the poster about Mickey Mouse celebrating 70 years in 1998.

Bridget is looking at the poster where Mickey Mouse will celebrate his 82nd birthday on the 18 November 2010.

Tina is showing Julie her Mickey Mouse box that she inherited from her grandmother.

Tina opens the lid and inside the lid is written, To Edna, from Joan Foster Xmas 1935. Inside the box are two New Zealand pennies. One is dated 1866 and the other is dated 1875.

Ginny's Doll Friends

These are Roddy dolls. Left doll is 17 cm high, back markings are RODDY MADE IN ENGLAND. Walker doll has head moulded to body, has open/close blue eyes and cannot sit down. Right doll is 9 cm high, back markings are RODDY MADE IN NEW ZEALAND. Has open/close brown eyes, legs moulded with body so legs cannot move. Both arms move together and can be turned right around.

This cut out doll is made of soft cardboard. The  doll has a back which is folded over at the top of the hat and the other items also fold over for the back . There is no identification on the items but I am sure it was manufactured in the 1950's or before.

Carrie dolls were made by Palitoy and made in Hong Kong. They are 14 cm and are wearing knitted dresses I made. They were available late 1970’s or early 1980’s. They were described in a toy catalogue as follows; This is Carrie – your very own baby doll. Carry her with you wherever you go! She is a beautiful little baby, with sleeping eyes and her very own baby bouncer.

The doll on left has made in England on her back and is 10 cm high with jointed arms and legs, open/close blue eyes and cannot move her head. She originally had yellow mohair glued on her head. The pink doll has no markings, joint arms and legs, open/close eyes and can’t move her head. Both are my dolls which I played with in the 1950’s.

These Amanda Jane dolls were made in England.   The left doll has blue open/close eyes and the far right doll has grey open/close eyes and both are 18cm high.  The middle standing doll is a more modern version with painted brown eyes and is 18cm high.   The sitting doll is marked Amanda Jane 12 73 on the back of her head and is 15cm high and is wearing original clothes.

The middle doll is a walking all plastic 19 cm doll. The back markings are; TUDOR ROSE MADE IN ENGLAND REG NO 870825.The side dolls are hard plastic just over 9 cm tall and I can’t read the back marking.

This doll is made of hard plastic and is 20 cm high with open/close blue/gray eyes. On her back is made in England. Her hair was glued onto her head but most has worn off now. She is sitting on a Barbie doll chair.

These dolls are made from hard plastic and have no identification on them. They are 16 cm high some have legs jointed and can sit down some did not have jointed legs only jointed arms that could move up and down.  Some just had the moulded hair others had the hair glued on and they were available in the 1950’s. The one on the left was my sisters and I had one with blonde glued on hair that could sit plus one that couldn’t sit and just had the moulded hair. I spent hours as a child playing with these dolls.

A Picnic at Sculpture Park

Carol was asleep when the phone rang in the morning.  She sleepily stretched her arm out of bed to pick the phone receiver up.

She was pleased to hear Julie’s voice at the other end of the phone and sat up while Julie invited her to join  Rosa,  Bridget and herself at Sculpture Park.  “We will meet you at the ball sculpture at 11.30 pm for a picnic lunch.”

Carol doesn’t have a clock.  Carol got out of bed and put her dressing gown on and selected the clothes she will wear to take to the bathroom and turned the tap on for a bath.

Carol enjoyed her warm bath even though she couldn’t find her yellow plastic duck to play with.

Carol wrapped a towel around herself and climbed out of the bath to get dressed.

Julie, Rosa and Bridget are at Sculpture Park waiting for her.  It is after 11.30 pm and they wonder if she is on her way.  Sculpture Park is a place at Kowhai Corner especially for Ginny girls. Although there is no playing equipment there at the moment, there are plans to add some this year.

Bridget hears some squealing in the shrubs so she goes over and investigates. It is a mother guinea pig with her two babies.

The girls decide to set out the picnic food. A friendly fantail is twittering around them interested in what they are going to do next.

Carol arrives (just in  time) and the girls are pleased to see her.

While they are having their picnic some kiwis and a pukeko become curious and come over to see what they are eating! It is not often you can have a picnic with native wildlife coming this close to you.
