Postal Stamps - Kete

A set six stamps was issued to coincide with the dawn of the Maori New Year. The 2016 Matariki stamp issue examines the art form of kete: its origin development and significance to Maori.

The practice of weaving kete has been an integral part of Maori culture for generations. Traditionally fulfilling a functional requirement, today kete have developed into a contemporary art form.

Queen Elizabeth 11 - 90th Birthday

Julie is admiring the baby photo of Queen Elizabeth 11 on the pamphlet advertising the issue of a special stamp and coin issued for the Queen's 90th birthday.

In the afternoon Julie meets up with her friends to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. The cafĂ©’s theme for the Queen’s birthday is to wear pale clothing. The girls are having a raspberry drink in stem glasses and a piece of birthday cake. The question they discuss is: what present would you give the Queen for her birthday?

Julie is sitting 2nd on the left.

A Visit to Wallace Road

Rosa and Julie are visiting a property in the country. They like the Alpacas soft wool.

Rosa is with the camels and is admiring the baby camel and wondering if it will be safe to touch the baby camel.

Rosa and Julie are standing by the ostrich egg.

Rosa stands in front of a china container. No identification of maker visible, too heavy to lift and look underneath.

Scotland

The doll on the left is an Effanbee,  Li’l  Innocents.  The tag reads, Hi, I’m Cindy. Today is the first day of school… The middle doll is Julie wearing a homemade tartan skirt.  Next to her is a Scottish dressed doll that has her clothes glued on. She can open/close her eyes and her arms move at the shoulders.

This tray cloth was embroidered over fifty years ago. Unfortunately it has been in a position where the sun has faded it.

The Effanbee doll is approx. 21 cm and the hard plastic doll is approx. 18 cm.

Tina has met up with her Scottish friend from the same era as her, the 1950’s. One of the Kiwi folk has arrived dressed in Scottish attire and plays some old Scottish songs on the bagpipe.
